Target Platform (Project)
Applies to
Platform: Fabric Lakehouse
Target Platform (TargetPlatform) selects whether a Fabric Lakehouse project generates artifacts for Microsoft Fabric or for Azure Synapse. The choice decides how the deployment creates the containers of each layer.
Values and default
Choose one value in Project Settings:
Fabric(default): the target is a Fabric Lakehouse. See Fabric Lakehouse - Target environment.Azure Synapse: the target is Azure Synapse. See Azure Synapse - Target environment.
Effect on generated output
Fabric: each layer header of the deployment notebook runsCREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS, when the Deployment Options containGenerate Create Schema If Not Exists Statements.Azure Synapse: each layer header runsCREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTSwith the database directory as location, independent of the Deployment Options.- Placeholders: with
Azure Synapse, the layers and the load control are databases in a storage account. The replacement configuration has noworkspace_nameand addsdatabase_directory, see Fabric Lakehouse - Placeholder values.
With Fabric, object names start with a workspace placeholder: `<workspace>`.`<database>`.`<schema>`.`<object>`. With Azure Synapse, they start with the database. Only Fabric artifacts contain deploy.ps1.
Example
The Business Vault header of a Data Vault project with Fabric (line breaks added):
spark.sql('CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS
`<database>`.`<schema>`')
The same header with Azure Synapse:
spark.sql("CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS `<database>`
LOCATION '<database directory>'")
