Oracle - Index definitions (Business Rule)

Applies to
Platform: Oracle

These business rules check the custom indexes of a model object on Oracle. An index without index columns raises error ID-33000, which blocks generation in the client. Create as local Index on a table without a Partition Clause raises warning ID-33001, and the setting is ignored.

Messages

Each message names the model object and its type in place of <model object name> and <type>. Index types and options are set in Edit an Index. The Generate Artifacts page lists the messages without the rule ID.

Index without index columns

The client shows an error with this text:

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has an index
without index columns defined. Please configure the index columns.

On the model object card, point to the error icon to see this message with the rule ID: Error ID-33000.

Cause: a B-Tree Index or Bitmap Index has no Index Columns.
Fix: select the Index Columns of the index.

Available since Generator 2.0.

Local index on a table without partitions

The client shows a warning with this text:

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has a local
index defined on a table that is not partitioned. The setting will be
ignored.

On the model object card, point to the warning icon to see this message with the rule ID: Warning ID-33001.

Cause: an index has Create as local Index set, and the table of its target object has no Partition Clause.
Fix: set a Partition Clause on the model object, or clear Create as local Index.

Available since Generator 2.0, with the current condition since Generator 2.4.1.

Check the result

The error or warning icon is gone from the model object.

Example

In a Data Vault project on Oracle, the Hub common_item gets the B-Tree Index IX_BR_NO_COLUMNS without Index Columns. The client shows:

Model object 'common_item' of type 'Hub' has an index without index
columns defined. Please configure the index columns.

Release differences

  • Generator 2.4.1: the local index warning appears only for a table without a Partition Clause. Up to Generator 2.4.0 every index with Create as local Index got the warning, with the details "has a local index defined, but is not partitioned".
