Dataflows amount with multi-version load (Business Rule)

Applies to
Platform: Microsoft SQL Server · Snowflake · Snowflake dbt · Databricks · Databricks dbt · Fabric Lakehouse · Fabric Warehouse · Oracle
Architecture: Data Store · Data Vault · Data Mart

This business rule checks that a model object with a multi-version load has only one dataflow. It raises an error, which blocks generation in the client until you fix it. The rule ID is ID-10031.

Message

The client shows an error with this text on the model object. <model object name> and <type> stand for its name and type.

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has Multi Version
Load configured. In this case, only 1 dataflow can be used.

On the model object card, point to the error icon to see this message with the rule ID: Error ID-10031. The Generate Artifacts page lists the message without the ID.

Cause

A source model object of a dataflow set has Version Valid From Term (ValidFromSourceTerm) set, which switches on the multi-version load, and the model object has more than one dataflow. The rule checks Store Entity, Satellite, Link Satellite, Business Satellite, Business Link Satellite and Mart Dimension.

Fix

  1. Open Manage Term Mappings of the model object.
  2. Delete the extra dataflows so that one remains, see Delete a Dataflow. The error disappears.

If the model object needs no multi-version load, clear Version Valid From Term of the source model object instead.

Check the result

The error icon is gone from the model object, and generation is no longer blocked by it.

Example

In a Data Mart project on Microsoft SQL Server, the Mart Dimension mvl_historized_source_first has a multi-version load and gets a second dataflow. The client shows:

Model object 'mvl_historized_source_first' of type 'Mart Dimension' has
Multi Version Load configured. In this case, only 1 dataflow can be
used.
