Aggregation with multi-version load (Business Rule)
Applies to
Platform: Microsoft SQL Server · Snowflake · Snowflake dbt · Databricks · Databricks dbt · Fabric Lakehouse · Fabric Warehouse · Oracle
Architecture: Data Store · Data Vault · Data Mart
This business rule checks that a model object with a multi-version load uses no aggregation in its term mappings. It raises an error, which blocks generation in the client until you fix it. The rule ID is ID-10033.
Message
The client shows an error with this text on the model object. <model object name> and <type> stand for its name and type.
Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has Multi Version Load configured. In this case, aggregation is not supported.
On the model object card, point to the error icon to see this message with the rule ID: Error ID-10033. The Generate Artifacts page lists the message without the ID.
Cause
A source model object of a dataflow set has Version Valid From Term (ValidFromSourceTerm) set, which switches on the multi-version load. At least one term mapping of the same dataflow set has an Aggregation Type other than None. The rule checks Store Entity, Satellite, Link Satellite, Business Satellite, Business Link Satellite and Mart Dimension.
Fix
- Open Manage Term Mappings of the model object.
- For each term mapping with an aggregation, open Edit Term Mapping and set Aggregation Type to
None. The error disappears when no term mapping of the dataflow set aggregates.
If the model object needs no multi-version load, clear Version Valid From Term of the source model object instead.
Check the result
The error icon is gone from the model object, and generation is no longer blocked by it.
Example
In a Data Mart project on Microsoft SQL Server, the Mart Dimension mvl_scd_0_1 has a multi-version load. Every mapped term gets Aggregation Type Max. The client shows:
Model object 'mvl_scd_0_1' of type 'Mart Dimension' has Multi Version Load configured. In this case, aggregation is not supported.
