Version Valid From Term configured (Business Rule)

Applies to
Platform: Microsoft SQL Server · Snowflake · Databricks · Databricks dbt · Fabric Lakehouse · Fabric Warehouse · Oracle
Architecture: Data Store · Data Mart

This business rule warns when a Mart Dimension or Store Entity reads a historized source without Version Valid From Term (ValidFromSourceTerm). It raises a warning, and generation continues. The rule ID is ID-10035.

Message

The client shows a warning with this text on the model object. <model object name> and <type> stand for its name and type.

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has source model
objects that are historized but have not configured the
ValidFromSourceTerm property. Unfiltered historized sources could cause
duplication and degraded performance.

On the model object card, point to the warning icon to see this message with the rule ID: Warning ID-10035. The Generate Artifacts page lists the message without the ID.

Cause

A source model object in a dataflow set is historized, and its Version Valid From Term is empty. Historized sources are the satellite types except the Non-Historized ones, History View, PIT, their Business Vault variants, and any model object with an SCD2 term.

Fix

  1. Open the historized source model object in the dataflow set, see Edit a Dataflow Model Object.
  2. Set Version Valid From Term to the term that holds the start of each version and save. This switches on the multi-version load, see Configure a multi-version load. The warning disappears.

Check the result

The warning icon is gone from the model object.

Example

In a Vault and Mart project on Microsoft SQL Server, the Mart Dimension common_salestransaction reads a historized source model object without Version Valid From Term. The client shows:

Model object 'common_salestransaction' of type 'Mart Dimension' has
source model objects that are historized but have not configured the
ValidFromSourceTerm property. Unfiltered historized sources could cause
duplication and degraded performance.
