Excluded from Delta Detection settings (Business Rule)

Applies to
Platform: Microsoft SQL Server · Snowflake · Snowflake dbt · Databricks · Databricks dbt · Fabric Lakehouse · Fabric Warehouse · Oracle
Architecture: Data Vault

These business rules check the terms selected in Excluded from Delta Detection of a satellite. A selected term that does not exist raises error ID-10066, which blocks generation in the client. A term that cannot be excluded raises warning ID-10067, and excluding every descriptive term raises warning ID-10068.

Messages

Each message names the satellite and its type in place of <model object name> and <type>. The Generate Artifacts page lists the messages without the rule ID.

Excluded term does not exist

The client shows an error with this text, with the ID of the missing term in place of <term id>:

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has term with
id '<term id>' excluded from delta detection, but no corresponding
term could be found on the model object.

On the model object card, point to the error icon to see this message with the rule ID: Error ID-10066.

Cause: Excluded from Delta Detection lists a term that the satellite does not have.
Fix: open Edit Model Object and remove that entry from Excluded from Delta Detection.

Excluded term cannot be excluded

The client shows a warning with this text. <term name> is the excluded term, and <reason> is either "foreign keys cannot be excluded from delta detection" or "this term does not take part in change detection anyway".

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has term
'<term name>' excluded from delta detection, but <reason>. The
exclusion is ignored.

On the model object card, point to the warning icon to see this message with the rule ID: Warning ID-10067.

Cause: the excluded term is a business key, an identity, a foreign key or a Default Term, or it has Historization Type SCD0. The satellite ignores this exclusion and detects changes as before.
Fix: remove the term from Excluded from Delta Detection.

All descriptive terms excluded

The client shows a warning with this text:

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has all its
descriptive terms excluded from delta detection. Changes to these
terms do not create new versions.

On the model object card, point to the warning icon to see this message with the rule ID: Warning ID-10068.

Cause: every descriptive term of the satellite is in Excluded from Delta Detection. Descriptive terms are all terms except keys, foreign keys, Default Terms and SCD0 terms.
Fix: when changes to the satellite should create new versions, remove at least one descriptive term from the list. Otherwise the warning stays.

Available since Generator 2.4.

Check the result

The error or warning icon is gone from the satellite.

Example

In a Data Vault project on Microsoft SQL Server, the Satellite load_caching_hashing has the Default Term BG_LoadTimestamp in Excluded from Delta Detection. The client shows:

Model object 'load_caching_hashing' of type 'Satellite' has term
'BG_LoadTimestamp' excluded from delta detection, but this term does
not take part in change detection anyway. The exclusion is ignored.
