Data quality rules on Data Vault relationships (Business Rule)

Applies to
Platform: Microsoft SQL Server · Snowflake · Snowflake dbt · Databricks · Databricks dbt · Fabric Lakehouse · Fabric Warehouse · Oracle
Architecture: Data Vault

This business rule warns when a relationship of a Data Vault model object has an active data quality rule with Execution behaviour Before. Data Vault objects are loaded in parallel, so such a rule cannot rely on the related model object being loaded first. The rule raises warning ID-20007, and generation continues.

Message

The client shows a warning with this text on the model object. <model object name> and <type> stand for its name and type.

Model object '<model object name>' of type '<type>' has has data
quality rules for relationships defined. In data vault related
objects are loaded in parallel and consistency during load cannot be
enforced.

On the model object card, point to the warning icon to see this message with the rule ID: Warning ID-20007. The Generate Artifacts page lists the message without the ID.

Available since Generator 2.0.

Cause

A relationship of a Link or satellite has an active data quality rule, such as Missing Foreign Keys (Data Quality Rule), with Execution behaviour Before.

Fix

  1. Open Manage Data Quality of the model object and select the relationship.
  2. Deactivate or delete the data quality rule, see Edit a Data Quality rule. The warning disappears.

Execution behaviour After raises the warning of Data quality rules after load (Business Rule) instead.

Check the result

The warning icon is gone from the model object.

Example

In a Data Vault project on Microsoft SQL Server, the first relationship of the Link multi_hub_lnk gets the data quality rule Missing Foreign Keys with Execution behaviour Before. The client shows:

Model object 'multi_hub_lnk' of type 'Link' has has data quality rules
for relationships defined. In data vault related objects are loaded
in parallel and consistency during load cannot be enforced.
