Create an Entity

A Model Object of type Entity can be created in the Silver Layer.

What is an Entity

In Dimensional modeling, an Entity represents a structural object. It must have a set of business keys to identify a unique data entry. Entities can be used as levels in dimensions.

Creation steps

There are two possibilities to create an Entity Model Object:

• Create a Model Object with the Wizard:
  • Recommended possibility
  • Use the Wizard Create Entity from a Stage or a Core Composite that contains the following steps:
    • Create Model Object
    • Create Dataflow
    • Map selected Business Keys
    • Create Multiple Relations
    • Create Relations with Role
    • Map Foreign Key Terms
    • Map selected Terms
    • Add to View
• Create a Model Object manually:
  • Not recommended possibility

• • Create a Model Object of type Entity in the Silver Layer
  • Create a Dataflow Set 
  • Add a Model Object to the Dataflow Set: add the Stage Model Object
  • Auto-map the Source Terms: select the auto-map mode and auto-map all the Source Terms in the Source Model Object
  • Set the Business Key
  • Set an Historization type of all the Terms except for the Business Key
